The V Spot

Rants, observations and home decorating from a woman with no time for a blog.

Dreaming of a blue and green Christmas.

I looooove Christmas time! I start thinking about my color scheme and decor for the coming year on January 2nd… (as I pack up my holiday decor from the current year.)  It’s a bit of a sickness, really.

This year I am going with frosty silvers and white, like I did in 2010….

….but I am also going to be adding in turquoise and pops of chartreuse green.

I think it’s going to look FAB.  If you stick to a simple color scheme, it is easier to go BIG without looking over-done.  And at Christmas-time, I think one should always go big.

A few days ago I headed over to my local Pier 1 for a little Christmas inspiration and to pick up a few holiday staples.  There was plenty of inspiration!

As I mentioned, I usually have picked out my Christmas colors way back in January, so it is nice to walk in to Pier 1 and see a beautiful selection of ornaments in the very colors I want to use.  It validates my choices.  (Not that I need validation or anything… It’s just nice to know that I’m on the right track.)  Gorgeous peacock inspired colors, beautiful finishes and textures, and I love the glitter and the beads.

In addition to finding some inspiration, I also picked up a few holiday staples.  You must have candles at Christmas time.  Period.  And you can never have too many basic white pillar candles.

No Christmas Carol has ever made mention of the harsh glow of incandescent light bulbs.  Candles, firelight… yes!

I picked up several.

I am a firm believer in buying basic white dishes and serving pieces, then adding in special pops of color when the occasion calls for it.  There is a huge selection of colorful pottery and dinnerware at Pier 1.  This blue platter would be set off beautifully against the white dinnerware I already have.

And in practical news, I picked up a new gravy boat that sits over a tea-light to keep the gravy warm.  Pretty cool, yes?

We are getting our trees next week.  I can’t wait to start decorating them!  I will not put up my Christmas decorations until December 1st, but my decorations are staged and ready to go.  If you aren’t ready to go, I’d suggest a cruise through your local Pier 1…

If it’s interesting, if it’s impressive, if it’s colorful and cute and one-of-a-kind—then odds are it’s probably from Pier 1 Imports®. Great minds think alike: I'm going with chartreuse and teal mixed in with coppers and reds, both inside and outside, to match our main color scheme in our home! I heart Pier 1, especially this time of year!

The color combination sounds divine! There is a peacock farm across the street from me so I see those colors often and love them. I think I may need to head to Pier 1 for that gravy boat ~ excellent idea.
