Last month I was given some beautiful fabric to play with and I did a guest post at Mom It Forward, sharing how to recover some basic, boring lampshades using new fabric, a glue gun and a little bit of spray paint. In case you missed it, I am sharing it here today.
I love beautiful, colorful fabrics. (Who doesn’t, right?) Riley Blake Designs has some gorgeous prints and I knew it was just the thing to take some boring chandelier lampshades from drab to fab!
First I took the plain white chandelier shades and disassembled them. I pulled off the fabric covering and the trim on the top and bottom of the shade.
Using the old fabric as a template, cut out new pieces of fabric. I chose to reuse the original trim from the lampshades rather than buy new trim. I took them outside and I spray painted them.
That’s right… you can spray paint just about anything, including fabric. Lots of light coats is the key.
When it’s time to attach the fabric and trim to the shades, fire up your glue gun. This also only needs a light touch. A small dab of glue in a few places is all it takes.
This really is a quick and simple change that can take your lampshades from so-so to super.
Look around your house… what would you recover?

Wow what a transformation, from ok to super duper. Those look so fantastic and you made it look so easy. Good old spray paint, who-do- thunk it huh? Smart gal to spray the trim. Alot quicker, easier, less expensive and labor lighter.
Makes me even want to try it and I don’t have any of those little shades to cover. Am considering putting a wonderful image via transfer on one of my lamp shades. Really hesitating as if I don’t like it then I’m out a nice lamp shade. oh what the heck I”ll go for it. Thanks for sharing a great project. You inspire and give me courage.

Pinned. (I can remember the ziplock trick without pinning… I hope!)

This is so cute. I just saw a whole bunch of lampshades at DI today, and now I might go get some and make “seasonal” shades!!
