I'm thinking of hiring a photographer for our next vacation....

Let me explain why.

We haven't had any professional photos taken since Grant was an infant in 2004...

...so when Groupon had a great deal on a photography package a few months back, we took advantage of it.

We were way overdue. Obviously.  (And I am in a bit of a white T shirt & jeans rut. Obviously.)

I'm happy with how they turned out.  (Even Corsa was cooperative and looked at the camera. )

...And just look at my guys.  Aren't they handsome...? Aren't they well mannered...?

Oh.... Wait.
Here's a more, um, accurate representation of our sons.
This was our Christmas card this year.
Speaking of accurate representation... although I love how these photos turned out, and we love the beach (who doesn't, right?) it isn't as "us" as it could be.  "Us" would be wearing normal clothes and be taken someplace that we really love to be.  If we really wanted to be accurate, we should have our family Christmas card taken in July, on our annual camping trip.

Something Turquoise showcases amazing photographers and photo shoots, and all that creativity is inspiring me to plan ahead for 2012's Christmas photo.  I am going to look into finding a local photographer and seeing if it's feasible and affordable to do a quick photo shoot in our favorite place... the High Sierras.  (By the way, the KOA Community is a great way to get vacation, camping and photography tips and ideas... you should check it out!)

(Whether or not I can get Handsome Hubby and the boys to stop with the camping and start with the posing for pictures remains to be seen... but a girl gots ta try.)  I'm thinking that it might be better to do something a little unorthodox if it means a better result in the long run.

What do you think?

Yes! Yes, yes, and yes! I definitely think you should. I was just reading this:

Photos have always been important to me, but now . . . they take on a whole new meaning. Capture those moments, girl!

Who needs to pose? Everyday pictures are best. Creating Keepsakes did an article about having a photographer follow your family around for the day and do a day in the life. Those are real pictures. You have a beautiful family.

I'm already thinking about next years picture too. I feel like I've exhausted every possible pose and background Florida has to offer...Mickey Ears times 4 is just not an option!

I'm heading to check out that site now, who knows maybe I'll get a vacation out of it!

I love your photos! And white shirts and jeans are classic. I really think so - and your boys are so handsome!

How far away do you live from Emmy? She is a photographer, you know?

You are both in CA, but I have no idea how close you are.

But a photo-shoot in the mountains sounds awesome, I will probably have to copy that idea!

Yes, definitely a great idea. People often default to the white shirts and jeans thing- but yes, it never truly shows the real family.

It was such a cute family photo, your 2011 card, but I agree, I love the ones the most where the family photo is taken at a place that really means something to them. I love the natural shots, and not everything all coordinated. They aren't as stylish, but I think it shows the family's personality more. One of my favorite cards we received this year was from my friend who took a photo with her Iphone of her whole family, with Half Dome in the background. They were all laughing, and definitely it was relaxed, but probably one of the best photos they have done.

By the way, Corsa is a cute name for the dog. Is she by chance named after the car?

Your pictures were GREAT! Your boys are all so handsome. Our dog is NOT as cooperative. Good for Corsa!

I love this idea. I'll check it out!
