Like everything else around here, I spray paint my cheap, plastic, fake Adirondack chairs different colors based on the seasons. They’ve been eleventy billion different colors. This turquoise was my color of choice for the summer.
Now that fall (and more specifically) Halloween is upon us, I wanted a change. Last year I painted them black and called it a day. This year, I decided to paint some stripes.
I painted the chair, leaving a few of the “slats” unpainted.
I taped off the slats and tried to spray them, but I am a little too impatient to do it the right way, so there was over spray anyway. Then, I discovered that Rustoleum’s Paprika color looks red from the street, so I took good ole’ acrylic paint and painted those stripes by hand.
I think it’s kind of fun. The best part? On November 1st, I just spray black paint right over the orange stripes and add my fall stuff and I am good through Thanksgiving.
This isn’t quite finished, but I wanted to show you the chairs. (So you can either laugh and point, or go try it yourself… whichever.)
By the way, do you recognize that barn star…?
It was part of my summer mantel.
Reuse, repaint, reuse, repaint….

I think I have discovered that I love to spray paint. I’m a newbie. I know I am kinda late in the game… but I bought my first can of spray paint last week, glossy white and attacked a plastic pumpkin.
I wish that my house was big enough to have patio furniture so that I could change it out with the seasons. Instead, I can only add a few little things that sit right by the front door. LOVE your chairs and how easy it is for you to change the color with the seasons. The people at the paint store must love you and know you by name. :O)

I LOVE that you change out your patio furniture!!! And seriously, without spraypaint, I’d be broke…;) A couple of bucks and you get an entirely different look…love it…

Funny how colours change when we stand back. Photo often look completely different from what we see too.
I wonder how many coats of paint you can get on there. One day there will be an archeological dig and they will find your chairs. They will come up with many different theories on why the chairs were painted over and over again.

I need chairs like that that I can repaint and stuff. Orange and black would last for a long time around here as we’re OSU Beaver fans!! 🙂

Hello, I just want to say I think you are great. I think you are smart, funny, practical and the list goes on. I am curious about something. It obvious you put a lot of effort into changing up your décor but do the men in your life notice or appreciate the constant changes?

My name is Jackie, I forgot to add it to my comment. I am not a random stalker, crazy person. I just really enjoy reading blogs especially yours.

Hi Jackie, thanks for your nice comments. Yes, actually, my husband and my sons do notice the changes. Along with seasonal decor, I pack up seasonal toys, movies and books. My youngest is currently thrilled to have the Halloween toys out right now and to be watching things like It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown or The Nightmare Before Christmas.
I’m pretty lucky that they give me free rein. 🙂

Are your days longer than mine? Do you ever sleep?
SHIT, I feel inadequate!
But I do love you!
Impulsive Addict says
If Shawn feels inadequate, then how the hell do you think I feel? And to top it off, I had to sound out how to say Adirondack.
*so stupid*
Anyway, I can’t wait to see the ADIRONDACK chairs at Christmas. Maybe a candy cane theme?

I’m just glad to see that you’re giving the pumpkins a day off!
I’m thinking about painting something….it’s wood, but NOT my entertainment center.
I guess I better get on it before the weather gets too cold.

I love the whole look. You make it look so easy to do! Thanks for the inspiration.

I think it is great that you change with the season, I love that you decorate so easily! I am in between the laughing and thinking how fun. I have to admit, it reminded me a little bit of turkey feathers. Maybe just keep this way until after Thanksgiving? After all, you do live in SoCal!

I still have not done Morganne’s bed – you know the one I called you about a month ago- I’m totally intimidated by spray paint drips – how do I avoid them???
