Um, excuse me!? First of all, where did you hear about S&M…???!!! Second, it is NOT an S&M pumpkin… It’s a Punk-In. Some black paint, leather, studs and safety pins are all you need to add a punk edge to your Halloween decor.
1. I started out with a $1 pumpkin and a $3 belt from Goodwill…
2. Take a seam ripper and separate the top, faux layer of “snakeskin” from the rest of the belt.
3. Spray the pumpkin with primer, then with black paint. Cut the material from the belt into thin strips. Then cut them into pieces so that they are long enough to run from the base of the stem to the bottom of the pumpkin.
4. Count the indentations/vertical grooves in the pumpkin. Mine had 11. I took safety pins and put them through the 11 strips. (The remaining strips were set aside for embellishments and the stem.) Some were placed kind of randomly, but I made sure that each strip would have at least one pin that would hit right on that cheesy little line in the middle of the pumpkin. (Where it was molded in the Dollar Tree factory…)
5. For each strip, put a bead of hot glue at the base of the stem and line it up so that it is in the little indentation on the pumpkin.
6. Do not secure the bottoms yet.
7. Take the extra strips of the belt and glue one end so that it attaches to the pumpkin under one of the vertical strips.
8. At random cris-crossing angles, “weave” the extra strip over and under the vertical, safety pin strips.
9. Place a small piece of the belt across the top of the stem, then wrap and glue a longer piece around the circumference of the stem.
I had planned to leave the strips and safety pins “as is”
…but it still seemed like it needed something.
Fortunately, I am a compulsive clearance rack shopper and about a year ago I bought a bunch of these tiny little scrapbooking brads that were priced to move at .60 cents for a huge pack.
(I am not a scrapbooker, but I’ve learned to trust my instincts when it comes to buying something without knowing what I will do with it…)
I took an ice-pick (I felt sooo Halloween-ish!) and poked little pilot holes in the pumpkin and just pushed the brads right in.
I am pretty dang happy with the end result.
But for now I need to go find out where my kid managed to hear about S&M…

Very unique – funny I am supposed to be working so was just quickly scrolling thru and the S&M thot was in my head so scrolled back up and ahha in the title. Need more coffee. And I would guess Rihanna’s song for your daughter’s knowledge. Heard song and googled it. I was mortified with that song not because I’m a prude but because her fans are really young girls. But we won’t go there. Great job and beyond unique!!!

Well you have TWO pumpkin “looks’ down. Sweet & Sassy 😉 You are way ahead of me. Thanks for your kind help BTW. Very, very appreciated =)
